Anyway, I'm trying to find something interesting to write about and not "cop out" by writing about McDonald's or something obvious. AlrIIIIIIIIIIIIIITGH, so a multinational corporation (according to the lecture slides, look em up fool) are corporations that have a "clear national home
base, but operate in several countries." Sweet mang, so what do I write about that? Well It used to be that individual entrepreneurs off in some little niche of the world would come up with good ideas and pass 'em around to the public, gain support and then become successful worldwide. Great system, but now, larger corporations span the whole globe, and they've started this lame habit of snatching up all the budding entrepreneurs and taking the ideas for themselves to use for their mass market money making schemes.
In particular, I'm just vaguely miffed Facebook bought Occulus Rift©. In case you don't know, the rift is a new vertual reality headset that people all over the world have been building anticipation for [http://www.oculusvr.com/]. The occulus team has been blowing peoples minds, scaring children and making their grannies scream with their consumer focussed, marketing, product and designs. No joke; [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pAC5SeNH8jw]. Anywho, Mark Zuckerburg tried the prototype rift, which is still in development (the real one is coming out 2015) and was like aw yea get me one of those and pretty much instantly bought the company and all copyrights for 2billion... [http://www.theguardian.com/technology/2014/jul/22/facebook-oculus-rift-acquisition-virtual-reality]. These multinational corps are so ridiculously huge they can just sweep up all new ideas, everything revolutionary or new is instantly in the hands of the rich and powerful. I kinda prefer a balance of power, theres no way small business can win anymore its like a team of 6 people with a good idea vs a massive global entity with thousands of staff. I'm not a fan of this new fangled neoliberalism. There needs to be some sort of regulation to help small business in the wake of these MNC's.
This is a great first blog! Think you make some very insightful points, especially about the power of certain companies such as Facebook. However I think their buying power and ability to do such things are inevitable
ReplyDeleteI wholeheartedly agree haha, but it isn't all doom and gloom. Good things can come from it all in the end. I shall endevour in my future writings to be less bias and portray both good and bad sides of the story. It just seems that drama and corporation hating is inherent to my particular writing style... My bad, oh well xD.
